Emergency Medical Assistance

Within the scope of emergency medical assistance, we have an organized pre-hospital unit, headed by Milena Vidmar Romič, MD, specialist in general medicine.

Emergency Medical Assistance (EMA) involves the implementation of urgent medical measures by a doctor and their team for a person who is in immediate life-threatening condition due to illness or injury, or for whom, based on symptoms, such a condition may soon develop.

The EMA service is intended for patients/injured persons in emergency situations, as defined by the rules of compulsory health insurance (Article 103). Emergency medical assistance is intended for patients/injured persons who require medical help immediately.

EMA is organized 24 hours a day and, depending on the patient’s condition, is provided:

• in the field, as an emergency visit by the pre-hospital unit team

In addition to regularly employed doctors, other general practitioners also participate in the work of the EMA service.

If you request a home visit for a health condition that the doctor assesses as non-emergency, such a service is self-paid. In such cases, medications prescribed by the doctor are issued on a white prescription and must be paid for in full by the patient.

Emergency medical assistance is not intended for:

• treatment of non-urgent conditions,
• prescribing medication you take regularly,
• issuing referrals for scheduled examinations.

In the above cases, please contact your personal doctor or the doctor who is substituting. Your personal doctor knows you best, has access to your medical records, and has the authority to treat and guide you in your healthcare.
