Workshops for Adults
The Adult Health Promotion Program is intended for individuals aged 19 and above and is free of charge. It offers professional support in maintaining a healthier and higher-quality lifestyle. The program includes a preventive check-up at the family medicine clinic, group workshops, and individual counselling to assist with lifestyle changes and to promote mental well-being.
Workshops are also available to support health promotion in the workplace and community-based health activities, arranged by prior agreement.
For the workshops listed below,
no referral is required — you only need to contact us directly. You will be informed about the start date of the workshops in writing or by phone. Each workshop is held as a single session.

You may be referred to the workshops listed below by your family doctor, specialist, reference nurse, or psychiatrist, based on the results of a preventive check-up that identifies potential risk factors for chronic non-communicable diseases. These workshops consist of multiple sessions.

Health Promotion – Healthy Lifestyle
- In this workshop, you will learn about the factors that negatively impact your health, helping you significantly improve your well-being and restore your energy. You will also become familiar with the basic principles of healthy nutrition, the importance of maintaining a healthy body weight, and the role of physical activity and proper sleep in maintaining good health. The workshop also discusses the harmful effects of smoking and alcohol consumption.
Risk Factors
- You will learn about the importance of blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol levels, as well as how these risk factors contribute to the development of chronic diseases and their connection to lifestyle habits.
Am I Fit?
- You will receive information about your physical fitness level.
The workshop includes a 2 km walking test, a 6-minute walking test, and a 2-minute step-in-place test. Based on your results and health condition, you will get professional guidance on suitable physical activities to support and improve your health.
You will also gain motivation to improve your exercise habits and to participate in additional in-depth health education workshops.
Type 2 Diabetes
- The workshop is intended for individuals newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and for patients managed within family medicine practices who wish to learn more about living with diabetes.
It is not intended for patients treated in specialized diabetes clinics, as they already receive continuous education from a dedicated diabetology team.
During the workshop, you will receive the most crucial information about type 2 diabetes and practical guidance on managing your condition.
Relaxation Techniques
- This workshop aims to introduce you to the fundamental principles and effects of relaxation. You will explore three different relaxation techniques — breathing exercises, progressive muscle relaxation, and visualization of a calming place — including their benefits, practical uses, and guided practice.
During the workshop, you will also receive a handbook and recommendations to help you continue practicing these techniques at home.
Healthy Relationships
- In this workshop, you will gain:
- Information and skills for strengthening interpersonal relationships,
- Techniques for improving emotional well-being,
- Assertiveness skills, and
- Problem-solving strategies.
Coping with Stress
- It is a fact that stress cannot be completely avoided; therefore, it is crucial to learn how to manage it effectively. Building your physical and mental resilience helps prevent stress or traumatic experiences from overwhelming you or impacting your health.
In this workshop, you will gain:
- Knowledge and skills about understanding and experiencing stress,
- Insights into its causes, and
- Practical techniques to help you manage it and improve your well-being — including relaxation methods, strategies for redirecting thoughts and emotions, planning responses to stressful situations, and developing emotional awareness.

Group and Individual Counselling for Quitting Smoking
- About 75% of smokers want to quit, but only some succeed on their first try. This workshop provides professional support, guidance, and motivation to help you find new ways to quit smoking permanently.
If group sessions are not suitable for you, individual counselling is also available.
Workshop topics include:
- Why we smoke and why we want to quit this harmful habit
- Ways to gradually reduce the number of cigarettes smoked per day
- How to overcome psychological and physical addiction, as well as stress
- How to remain a non-smoker
- How to maintain a healthy lifestyle and manage body weight after quitting

Individual Counselling – Responsible Approach to Alcohol Consumption
- These workshops offer support and guidance for individuals who want to reduce or stop risky and harmful drinking, as well as assistance in maintaining lower risk drinking habits.
Counseling is available to anyone who exceeds the recommended low-risk drinking limits, as well as to their family members.
The workshop is part of the SOPA Project (Together for a Responsible Approach to Alcohol Drinking), which aims to reduce excessive alcohol consumption among adults in Slovenia and prevent the negative consequences that risky or harmful drinking can have for individuals and their families.
Healthy Nutrition
- In this workshop, you'll learn the basics of healthy eating and get motivated to change unhealthy dietary habits.
Workshop topics include:
- Choosing healthy foods and combining nutrients effectively
- Myths and facts about food
- Healthy methods of food preparation
- How to make healthier choices in everyday situations
- Reading food labels
- Individual meal planning based on personal nutritional needs
Support in Coping with Depression and Anxiety
- Depression and anxiety are common mental health conditions that can manifest in many different ways.
At the Health Education Centre, we host workshops led by a psychologist, where you will learn more about the symptoms, causes, treatment, and coping strategies for these conditions.
These workshops are psychoeducational, focusing on understanding stress, depression, and anxiety, as well as developing effective ways to manage and overcome them.
Physical Activity
- In this workshop, you'll gain knowledge and practical skills for effective physical exercise tailored to your individual health condition.
You'll complete a personal fitness assessment, and based on the results, a personalized exercise program will be created for you. The workshop is held in a group setting.
Workshop topics include:
- Proper structure of exercise and the importance of warm-up and stretching
- Aerobic exercise – improving heart, vascular, and respiratory endurance
- Balance and coordination exercises
- Strength and flexibility training
- Pelvic floor muscle activation exercises (for the prevention of urinary incontinence)
- Incorporating active breaks into your daily routine
Healthy Weight Management
- You will gain extensive knowledge for successful weight loss and receive all the support you need to reach your goals more easily and keep them over time.
The workshop consists of a theoretical section, a practical session with organized physical exercises, and psychological support to help you develop skills for changing your lifestyle.
Maintenance workshops follow introductory workshops.

During individual sessions, we will review your fitness assessment results and focus on creating a personalized plan for daily food intake and physical activity.
Living with Diabetes
- The workshop is designed for individuals newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and for patients managed within family medicine practices who want to gain a deeper understanding of living with diabetes.
It is not meant for patients in specialized diabetes clinics, as they already get ongoing education from a dedicated diabetology team.
Workshop topics include:
- Why are blood sugar levels elevated
- Why does blood sugar fluctuate
- Why is it important to treat diabetes
- Which foods have the most significant impact on raising blood sugar levels
- Reading food labels and other tips for choosing suitable foods
- Skills for maintaining the best possible quality of life with diabetes and better understanding the condition
